So, they recovered two episodes of Doctor Who. I know what you're thinking, "Recovered? How do you lose episodes of a TV show?" Because they just don't give a shit, that's how.

Let's back up. Doctor Who began airing in 1963 on the BBC. Back in those days, the executives at BBC were, and here I use an actual quote, "Stalinish" about funds and resources. One of their cost cutting measure was to TAPE OVER COMPLETE MASTER EPISODES OF THEIR TV SHOWS AFTER THEY AIRED. That's right, after all the work, effort, casting, and production, they would tape over the only record they had of all their work. And so, many of the first four or five seasons of Doctor Who are lost. Forever.

Well, maybe not. The BBC has put forth a reward to anyone who might have a tape of one of these missing episodes. Studio affiliates, or just plain tech savvy Doctor Who fans might just have some of these somewhere.

This week, they told us they've recovered two whole episodes. This is a major deal for the whoniverse. The episodes are: "Airlock" featuring the first Doctor, and "The Underwater Menace" starring second Doctor Patrick Troughton.

Rock on.
